An ingredient in Roundup weed killer has been linked to an increased risk for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma

    What is Roundup Weed Killer?

Roundup is an extremely prevalent weed killer used all around the world. Roundup is used for both home yard-work and businesses to kill weeds that would inhibit crop growth. Roundup is also used in schools, parks, and other similar spaces to prevent disruptive weeds from ruining the designs and aesthetics of landscapers, gardeners, and groundskeepers.

    What is Glyphosate?

In 2015, a report by the World Health Organization (WHO) linked a key Roundup ingredient to cancer. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) – a specialized agency within WHO – reported that glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, the most popular weed killer in the world, was “classified as probably carcinogenic to humans.”

    Who Does This Affect?

This affects homeowners around the world who used Roundup Weed killer. This affects farmers around the world who used Roundup Weed killer. This affects anyone around the world who may have used Roundup Weed Killer over the past 30 years.

    Outcomes in Court

Monsanto has responded in a statement by saying they don’t know how the IARC could reach these conclusions. However, in 2018 a jury ordered Monsanto to pay $289 million to a school groundskeeper. Due to using Roundup to spray fields for work, he developed Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

In court, Judge Suzzanne Ramos Bolanos announced that Monsanto “acted with malice, oppression or fraud and should be punished for its conduct,”

On March 27, 2019, a San Francisco jury awarded a 70-year old California man $80 million in damages after he claimed that Roundup caused his cancer. According to his lawsuit, he states to have been using Roundup for more than two decades on his 56-acre property.

On May 13, 2019, an Alameda County jury awarded a couple more than $2 billion in a verdict against Monsanto, a subsidiary of Bayer. This is the third recent court decision involving claims that Roundup weed killer caused cancer.
